Welcome to the CCSM Siberian cattery, home of Scott & Carie Braun, our children and a few cats and kittens that think they are human. We are a small cattery where our cats and kittens are raised to be loving, healthy and devoted furry companions. They are raised under foot and treated as members of our family until they are old enough to go to your family.
A Little Bit of History
The Siberian cat originated from Russia and has been around for about a thousand years, according to recorded history. They are a large hearty breed with semi-long fur. Males can weigh on the average, 12-18 (some larger), females 10-13. This cat tends to be slow in maturing, taking about five years. There are no known health problems in relation to this breed, more than likely as a result of having to survive such harsh conditions in the Siberian Forests.
The first Siberians arrived here in the US in 1990, making it a relatively new breed in this country. There are many who say that the Siberian is hypo-allergenic, although not proven scientifically, I have seen many people who are allergic to cats in general, able to enjoy the company of one of these wonderful animals. I myself, have had the pleasure to visit other catteries of other breeds and found that I was unable to stay as a result of severe allergic reactions. They don't require a great deal of brushing but it is an excellent bonding tool between you and your kitten. They will shed twice a year. One time to prepare themselves for summer where they have a more laid back lite summer look as opposed to their sophisticated winter coat which is triple layered.
If I had to describe the Siberian cat, I would have to say they are the closest things to having a dog around the house. They are playful, affectionate and very bright. They can figure things out by observing what we do. After a while you might just find closet doors or drawers opened, the remote missing with the t.v. set to the animal planet channel. These cats are very social, curious, enjoying humans as well as other pets as companions.
Picking the Kitten of your dreams
Our cattery is very small, only producing a few litters per year. We appreciate the time that goes into nurturing every kitten and want to make sure that they grow to be loving, healthy and well socialized.
If there are no kittens available at the time of your search, we will be more than happy to put you on a waiting list, however, no deposits will be taken until a kitten is chosen and a contract is signed.
Once you choose the kitten of your dreams a contract is reviewed, signed and a $300 non-refundable deposit is taken. Kittens are able to go home at approximately 12 weeks of age. They come with a one year health guarantee that covers any genetic illness. We will ship but prefer to meet the new adoptive family in person.
Male kittens should be neutered around 8 months and females around 6. We like to give them every opportunity to grow and develop as much as possible before altering.
Care information
We do not advocate declawing. Kittens are trained to scratch on posts with both carpeting and sisal, cat trees, special rugs or corrugated boxes. Scratching is a natural part of a cat's life. Patience and proper training with adequate places for them to scratch is the key to success in keeping your furniture from being damaged.
We feed a varied diet of raw meat and premium dry cat food. We do this to ensure that our cats get everything they need to be happy, healthy and strong. What many of us don't realize is that these sweet loving creatures are carnivorous animals and would be eating raw meat with some bones in the wild. I will be happy to assist you if you are interested in learning more.
By the time you get to take home your new furry friend, he or she will be litter box trained, scratch post and scratch pad trained and ready to share in everything you do. We find our cats quite curious and helpful around the house, especially when it comes to doing the laundry, making the bed and cleaning out litter boxes.
We welcome any questions or inquiries that you might have and look forward to hearing from you.
